Seth WARD

HUSBAND:
[F6414]. Seth WARD.
Son of John WARD [F12828] and Elizabeth [F12829].

Seth married Katherine SMITH [F6415].

The earliest record that mentions Seth Ward is in 1632:
“Henrico County Court. By order of Court 11 Feby. 1632 that all such planters or persons whatsoever who shall have no land due unto them by adventure or otherwise should have certain quantity granted unto them by lease for 21 years, therefore under this provision, to Seath Ward, of Varina, in the upper parts, planter, three score acres of land in the upper parts in corporation of Henrico; adjoining Daniel Sherley, Powhatan’s Tree, Three mile swamp.”

On 30 May 1634, the governor issued to “Seath Ward” a patent for a 21-year lease on 60 acres. This suggests that Seth was not an immigrant and was born in Virginia.

WIFE:
[F6415]. Katherine SMITH.
She married Seth WARD [F6414].

CHILDREN of Seth WARD [F6414] and Katherine SMITH [F6415]:
  1. [F3207]. Mary WARD. Born about 1618 in England. She married William HATCHER [F3206] about 1633-1634 in Lincolnshire, England. She emigrated to Burmuda Hundred, Virginia with her husband in 1635. She died after 1646 at Turkey Island, Henrico County, Virginia.
  2. Richard WARD. It is presumed that Richard WARD of Varina Parish is their son. Richard had a son, (CPT) Scott WARD (1661-1707), who married Ann HATCHER, daughter of Henry HATCHER. Richard died in 1682.
