John Vahan was admitted as an inhabitant of Newport, Rhode Island on 1 OCT 1638. He took the oath of a Freeman in 1655 in Newport. Also the records show that in 1655" The Roule of Freeman of ye Colonie of everie Towne, John Vahan". "Records of Births of Frindes Children in Rhode Island and other Places," Vault A, Book 822, show the birth records of John and Gillian's children. He died after 23 July 1687 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island.
WIFE:
[F4433]. Gillian TONZAR (Touzar-S8)(Touzer-S9)(Tonzer)(Tonjar-S6).
Born (in 1620-S8)(about 1622), probably in Wales [but S9 says in Kingston, R.I.. She died after 1653 in Rhode Island.

- John VAUGHAN. Born 19 APR 1644 in Newport, Rhode Island. He married Mary MOTT in 1671 in Newport, RI. He died in 1710 in Newport, Rhode Island.

- George VAUGHAN. Born 20 OCT 1650 in Newport, Rhode Island. He married Margaret SPINK (SPYNK) on 26 JUL 1680 in East Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island. He died 7 MAY 1704 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
- Daniel VAUGHAN. Born 27 APR 1653 in Newport, Rhode Island. He married Susanna GRIMES (GINNEY) on 27 APR 1678. He died on 13 JUN 1715 in Newport, Rhode Island.
- Mary VAUGHAN. Born on 3 JUL 1658 in Newport, Rhode Island. She married Thomas Weaver, son of Clement Weaver and Mary Freeborn, on 16 JUN 1681 in Newport, Rhode Island. She died on 24 AUG 1721 in Rhode Island.
- Mercy VAUGHAN. Mercy, married Caleb Carr, who became governor of Rhode Island and sponsor of privateers and pirates. {S8}. Note: S8 is the only source that mentions daughter Mercy.
