Daniel or Stephen THURSTON

The purpose of this file is to determine the correct parents of Daniel THURSTON [F3968]. It has been said that his father was either Daniel or Stephen THURSTON. It is also said that his parents were Robert Thurston and Martha Pierce. They are followed here until a determination can be made.

Daniel THURSTON.
Daniel Thurston of Newbury, Massachusetts, who married Ann Lightfoot, the widow of Francis Lightfoot, was the uncle of our ancestor, Daniel Thurston. We know this from his will in which he calls our ancestor Daniel his kinsman, but more importantly from a petition relating to the militia. The petition notes ”Young Daniel Thurston is under his uncle. (S1,S2). Daniel Thurston and Ann Lightfoot had no children.

From this it is apparent that Daniel Thurston, as his uncle, was not his father.

Robert Thurston and Martha Pierce.

Robert Thurston. (1601-1646).

Born about 1601 in Faversham, Kent, England; son of William Thurston and Alice Foxe.
He married Martha Pierce in 1619 in England.
He (died)(was buried) on 28 December 1636 in Faversham, Kent, England.

Martha Pierce. (1601-1648).

Born in (1597)(1601) in (Birchington)(Faversham), Kent, England.
He was buried on (25 May 1648)(6 January 1667) in Faversham, Kent, England.

If Daniel Thurston was born in Kent, he could easily be related to Robert and Martha. On the other hand, I see nothing yet to connect Robert and Martha to Cranbrook.

  1. A daughter, Elizabeth THURSTON, is said to have been born about 1640 in Bremhill, Wiltshire, England. What information is there to connect her to Robert Thurston and Martha Pierce of Faversham in Kent?
  2. a son Daniel Thurston is said by some to have been born in 1628 rather than in 1631.
