Thomas TENNEY Sr.

HUSBAND:
[F7168]. Thomas TENNEY Sr. [PC T1-1].
Born about 1614 [in 1614, (S4)] at Rowley, Yorkshire, England [Rowley, Riplingham, York. England. (S4)] ; son of Francis TENNEY [F14336] and Jane [F14337].

He married (1) Ann MIGHILL [F7169]. He and his wife Ann came from Rowley, England in the company of Reverend Ezekiel Rogers, and arrived in Salem, Massachusetts in DEC 1638. Source 3 and 4 say they were married in December 1638, at Salem, Essex, Massachusetts. They settled at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts in APR 1639, which was first called Rogers Plantation in honor of its spiritual leader, but then Rowley after their home in England.

In 1643 he received a grant of a house and lot. He was a warner of town meetings in 1650 and 1653. He was called an ensign and marshal in 1653. He was an overseer of plains in 1856. His wife Ann died in 1657. He married (2) 24 FEB 1658 to Elizabeth, widow of Francis Parrat of Rowley. (S1). He married (2) Elizabeth NORTHEND 24 Feb 1657. (S2).

He was a warner of town meetings and a selectman in 1660 and 1661. He was a overseer of plains in 1664. He was a constable in 1665 and 1666, and was also called an ensign and marshal. He was a warner of town meetings in 1666. He received a grant in 1667. The early church records were lost, but he was listed as a member in 1669. He was a viewer of fences, highways, and chimneys in 1669. He received a grant in 1670. He was also a selectman in 1670. He was an overseer of plains in 1671. He received a grant in 1673. He received a grant in 1674. On 4 MAY 1680 he made a deposition at Ipswich, Massachusetts in which he said his age was 66 years old. He was a tithing man in 1680.

He spent the last years of his life at Bradford, Massachusetts, as appears from a deed to his son John dated 15 JUN 1694. He died there 20 FEB 1699-1700. (S4) and was buried in the old cemetery at Bradford, Massachusetts, where his grave is marked by a slate stone.

WIFE (1):
[F7169]. Ann MIGHILL. [PC T1-1].
Born in 1618 in England; daughter of O.K. MIGHILL [F14338] and Ellen [F14339]. She was of Rowley, Yorkshire, England. She married Thomas TENNEY Sr. [F7168] in England, and came with him to New England in the company of Rev. Ezekiel Rogers. They arrived at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts in DEC 1638. It is also said that they were married in DEC 1638. They moved to Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts in APR 1639. She died in 1657 and was buried 26 SEP 1657, probably at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.

  1. John TENNEY. Born 14 DEC 1640 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts. He married (1) 26 FEB 1663 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts to Mercy PARRAT, dau. of Francis PARRAT and Elizabeth. She was born 23 JUL 1646 and died 27 NOV 1667. He married (2) 2 DEC 1668 in Merrimack Village, now Bradford, Massachusetts to Susanna WOODBURY, dau. of Humphrey WOODBURY and Elizabeth of Beverly, Massachusetts. She was born 4 FEB 1648 and died 9 APR 1716. John died 13 APR 1722 at Bradford, Essex County, Massachusetts.
  2. Hannah TENNEY. Born 15 MAR 1642 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.
  3. Mercy TENNEY. Born 17 JUN 1644 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts. She married Thomas HARDY (c1635-1716) on 22 SEP 1664 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Mercy died 15 August 1716, Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.
  4. Thomas TENNEY. Born 16 JUL 1648 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.
  5. James TENNEY. Born 15 AUG 1650 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.
  6. [F3584]. Daniel TENNEY. [PC T1-1]. Born 16 JUL 1653 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts. He married (1) Elizabeth STICKNEY on 21 Jul 1680 in Bradford, Essex, Massachusetts. He married (2) Mary HARDY [F3585] on 22 MAY 1695 at Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts. He married (3) Mary Elizabeth WOODMAN on 17 MAY 1712. He died about 1747-1748 at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.
