Born 9 December 1689 in Boston, Massachusetts; son of Nathaniel SHANNON [F1896] and Elizabeth [F1897]. He was christened at the Old South Church in Boston on 22 December 1689. {S3}.
He was a member of the Old South Church in 1711. {S13}.
Soon after 1711 he engaged in trade in Ipswich, Massachusetts. {S13}.
He moved from Ipswich to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he was a shipping merchant. He was also engaged in the fishing industry, which by then had become a leading industry in New England. {S13}.
He married (1) ?. (S8). [What evidence is there that there was a marriage previous to Abigail?].
He married (2) Abigail VAUGHAN (S3,S5,S13) on (23 October-S3)(25 November-S5,S7,S13,S14) 1714 (in Portsmouth, New Hampshire-S3,S9,S13)(Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts-S5,S7).
Family tradition says that in 1720 he moved to the West Indies and remained there engaged in commercial enterprises until his death. {S13}.
He died (in 1723-S2,S5,S7)(before 1723-S3,S9,S13) in Barbados, West Indies.

Born about 1689 in Rye, Rockingham, New Hampshire. (S8).
WIFE (2):
[F949]. Abigail VAUGHAN. [PC T4].
She was born on 5 MAY (1683-S3,S13)(1693-S5) at (Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts-S5)(Portsmouth, New Hampshire-S13); daughter of William VAUGHAN [F1898] and Margarett CUTT [F1899].
Abigail married (1) Nathaniel SHANNON (S10) on (23 October-S3)(25 November-S5,S7,S13,S14) 1714 (in Portsmouth, New Hampshire-S3,S9,S13)(Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts-S5,S7).
Abigail married (2) (CPT) George WALKER. (S10). [George Walker: b. 1662 - d. 7 DEC 1748 - Marriage: BEF 1736].
Abigail left a will dated 18 February 1756 in which she names her grand children and son Cutts as the executor of the will. (S3). She died in (1762-S3).
CHILDREN of Nathaniel SHANNON [F948] and Abigail VAUGHAN [F949]:
- Nathaniel SHANNON. (S3, S11). Born 17 February 1715-1716 Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. He married Alice FROST, daughter of Samuel FROST, on 10 NOV 1737. (S3). She died on 25 OCT 1780 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. (S3). Nathaniel was an innkeeper in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. (S3). He joined the church in Portsmouth in 1738. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity in 1739. (S3). He died in 1753 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. (S3). Their children were Nathaniel b.4/20/1740, George Walker b. 7/23/1738, Abigail b.3/7/1740, and Margaret b.1743. (S3).
- Cutt SHANNON. (S3, S11). Born 17 August 1717 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He married Mary Vaughan on 1 Dec 1741 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He died on 12 Dec 1763 [Did he really have a child named Cutts who married Mary Vaughan?].
- [F474]. Thomas SHANNON. [PC T4]. Born in (1720-S3)(1725-S1,S5) at Rye, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. He married Anne RAND [F475] on (1744-S?)(31 MAY 1753-S1,S2,S5) at Rye, Rockingham, New Hampshire. He died in Rockingham County, New Hampshire.(S5).
