John SANBORN
HUSBAND:
[F1892]. John SANBORN.
Born (6-S1,S7,S10)(8-S2) NOV 1680 at Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; son of William SANBORN [F3784] and Mary MARSTON [F3785]. He married Ruth ROBIE [F1892] on (11 NOV-S?)(10 DEC-S2,S3,S4,S7,S13) 1701 at Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.
John was a wealthy and influential man. The town of Sanbornton, Belknap County, New Hampshire, was named in his honor.
He died 30 OCT 1767 at Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.
WIFE:
[F1893]. Ruth ROBIE.
Born (about 1679-S1,S7)(on 14 Oct 1678-S2,S4,S5,S11)(in 1684-S11)(in 1686-S18) in (Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire-S7,S11)( Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts-S4,S11,S12); daughter of John ROBIE [F3786] and Anne CORLISS [F3787]. (S3,S8,S9,S13,S14).
Samuel Robie from Hampton, New Hampshire and the John Robie from Haverhill, Massachusetts, were brothers; sons of Henry ROBIE [F7572] and Ruth MOORE [F7573].
The Ruth Robie who was the daughter of John Robie and Anne Corliss, was born 14 OCT 1678 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Her parents were married on 1 Nov 1677, Haverhill, Essex Co., Massachusetts. They lived their entire married life in Haverhill.
John Robie and his wife Anne Corliss both died in 1691. John was killed by Indians on 16 JUN 1691, just 15 days after the death of his wife. All their children, including their daughter Ruth, were age 12 at the time. It is probable that all the children went to live with John’s brother Samuel in Hampton, New Hampshire. Samuel ROBIE and Mary PAGE.(S1,S6,S10,S11,S18).
Samuel Robie and Mary Page are said to have had a daughter Ruth, who was apparently born about 1684. It could have been a separate Ruth, but such a birth is not documented and seems to be doubtful.
Therefore, I believe that the children did indeed go to live with their uncle Samuel and aunt Mary in Hampton. A lot of confusion seems to have been caused by the fact that the children of both families, as with Ruth, were raised together, creating confusion as to exactly who were their parents.
Ruth married John SANBORN [F1892] on (10 DEC-S2,S3,S4,S10) 1701 at Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.
She died 19 APR 1753 at Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

GDMNH says it may have been this Ruth who married Hon. John SANBORN. Noyes/Libby/Davis, "Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire," (1939), pgs. 591 and 793. This corrects the information reported by Dow and by Sanborn, Victor Channing, "Genealogy of the Family of Samborne or Sanborn in England and America, 1194 -1898," (1898), at pg. 103.
