NOTES: "A History of the Moulton Family", by W.O. Moulton and children of Stuart IA, 1905 reports that the earliest of this surname was Thomas Multon or DeMulton who the Domesday Book of 1086 states was given the estate "Galeshore". Later Thomas Multon, called in French DeVaux, of Norman and Saxon descent, a resident of Gillesland in Cumberland, attended Richard I in the Crusades and is prominent in Sir Walter Scott's "The Talisman." The Magna Charta of 1215 contains the signature of another Thomas.
