[F64]. Joseph MORRIS. (MORREY).
Joseph was born 17 DEC (APR-S?) 1795 at Burwardsley, Cheshire, England; son of James MORRIS [F128] and Hannah LEDSAM [F129]. He was christened on 19 APR 1795)(1796-S7) at Harthill, Cheshire, England.
He married Elizabeth VERNON [F65] on 24 JUL 1815 at St. Oswald’s Church in Chester, Cheshire, England.
St. Oswald’s Parish:
Chester, St. Oswald (Church of England), Queen Street. An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Bache, Blacon cum Crabwall (part), Churton Heath, Croughton, Great Boughton, Huntington, Iddinshall, Lea Newbold, Newton by Chester, Saighton, Upton by Chester (part), Wervin, and part of the City of Chester. Closed 1881 and replaced by the parish church by St.Thomas, Parkgate Street. Registers of baptisms 1581-1945, marriages 1581-1969 and burials 1581-1854 are at the Cheshire Record Offire (CRO).
Joseph and Elizabeth were living in Handley at the time of the birth of their first child, George.
Joseph and Elizabeth apparently moved from Handley to Burwardsley sometime between 1816 and 1818, according to the birth information for the children.
Joseph was a very strict Methodist. He was a shoemaker by trade. He was often absent from home for long periods of time, and Elizabeth moved to Dukinfield where their son George lived. After Elizabeth died in NOV 1938, Joseph moved to Dukinfield to care for the family.
Josdph died 29 (28-S2,S4) APR 1861 in Birchlane at Dukinfield, Cheshire, England. He was buried 1 MAY 1861 at St. Johns Church in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England.
WIFE:
[F65] Elizabeth VERNON.
Elizabeth was born on 21 FEB (1791)(1794-S7) at Burwardsley, Cheshire, England; daughter of George VERNON [F130] and Rebecca GOLBORN [F131]. She was christened on 21 FEB 1791 at Acton by Nantwich, Cheshire, England. {S?}.
She married (1) John SILVERTHORN. They had a son, James. Her husband soon deserted her.
She married (2) Joseph MORRIS [F64] on 24 JUL 1815 at St. Oswald’s Church in Chester, Cheshire, England. Joseph adopted her son James from her first marriage. Joseph was often gone so she moved to Duckinfield to be with her son George.
She suddenly became ill in OCT 1839 (S6) and died within two weeks, on 2 NOV 1839 at Dukinfield, Cheshire, England. She was buried at St. Johns Church (Providence Chapel) in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England.

- [F32]. George MORRIS. Born on 23 AUG 1816 at Handley, Cheshire, England. He married (1) Jane Higgenbotham; (2) Hannah Maria Newberry; (3) Harriet Newberry; (4) Maria Allen; (5) Anne Mathews. He died on 29 JAN 1897 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.
- Mary (Mercy) Ann MORRIS. Born 16 NOV 1818 at Burwardsley, Cheshire, England. She married Allen WILKINSON on 4 FEB 1838 at Ashton Under Lyn, Lancashire, England. She died in 1850 at Deer Creek, on the plains enroute to Utah.
- William MORRIS. Born 16 NOV 1820 at Burwardsley, Cheshire, England. He married Mary Ann (Sarah) DURHAM on 20 AUG 1848 at Manchester, Lancashire, England. He died 5 NOV 1900 at Parawon, Iron County, Utah.
- Joseph MORRIS. Born on 15 December 1823 at Burwardsley, Cheshire, England. He married (1) Mary OLSEN about 1846 at Liverton, Bunbury, Cheshire, England. He and his wife and one child crossed the plains in 1853. The departed from St. Louis, Missouri. He settled in Weber County, Utah. He married (2) Eliza JONES. He was leader of the Morrisites and self proclaimed prophet of the group. He died on 28 JUN 1862 at Kisgston Fort, Weber County, Utah.
- Francis (Fanny) MORRIS. Born (16-S4) 28 JUN 1827 at Burwardsley, Cheshire, England. She died (about 1834-S4)(in 1835) at about age 8.
- Mathew MORRIS. Born 16 JUL 1829 at Burwardsley, Cheshire, England. He married Mary LEIGH on 28 DEC 1856 in England. He died 25 DEC 1884.

John SILVERTHORN.
CHILD of John SILVERTHORN and Elizabeth VERNON [F65]:
- James SILVERTHORN. Born about 1813 (about 1814-S4, S7) in Handley, Cheshire, England (in Hollingwood, Manchester, Lancashie, England-S7). He was adopted by his step-father, Joseph MORRIS. He was sealed to Joseph and Elizabeth in 1893 by George Morris. He married (1) Elizabeth BRADLEY on 23 SEP 1838. He married (2) Mary (Mercy) Elizabeth HIGGENBOTHAM in about mid 1839. [Check the marriage dates for both of these]. She was the older sister of Jane, who married his half-brother George Morris [F32]. They had two children. The younger was called Martha and the older called Elizabeth. [Mary and Jane had two brothers, Matthew and James.] James Silverthorn and his son was killed in a coal mine in (New Jersey or Pennsylvania?) (on 29 Aug 1882-S7).
