ORIGINS
Genealogical charts from Yorkshire England shows that the Favill Family resided in that area as early as 1267.
Those of the name Flavell derive their pedigree from one who was the third great officer that came over (about 1066 AD) with William the Conqueror ", so wrote John Flavel , non-conformist preacher in the 17th. century. {S6}.
The family of ffauvell or ffavell settled in the very early times in Bedfordshire, Northampton, and Yorkshire. They were then lords of the manor from at least Henry III (1216) to Edward III (1327).{S6}.
Thomas Favill of Bound Brook, New Jersey may be the emmigrant ancestor of New England Faville family.
John and Jacob FAVILL appear in Montgomery County, New York shortly after the American Revolution. They apparently are from England, but residents of Montgomery County where they settled were from Mannheim, Germany area; so they could have been as well.

FAVILLE FAMILY INDEX:
- F1. John FAVILL. [see (Captain) John FAVILL ]. Born in 1749 in England; son of Thomas FAVILL [F18] and Mary. A descendant, Stephen Favill, of Madison, Wisconsin wrote in 1899 that John Favill came to America from England sometime before the Revolutionary War. His name appears on the rolls of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.John Favill served as a private, 1778, in Capt. John Lafler's Company of Bateaumen, Continental troops. He is mentioned as at one time of being in command at Fishkill. His neighbors always honored him with the title of Captain. John at one time lived in New Jersey. After the Revolutionary War he married and lived at Haverstraw, NY, on the Hudson River. For services in the war he and Cornelius Lamberson were given each a tract of land in the town of Salisbury, described as being westerly from a clearing then known as Yankee Bush (now Burrells Corners.) Evidently Grandfather did not like that first location, so he built some sort of a bark shelter just below the falls and moved from Salisbury to Manhiem. His first house was log, built about 1792. About 1802 he dug a cellar and built a two-story house of sawn lumber, judging from the size of the foundation, which still remains. The fireplace occupied one half of the greater part of the first floor and the trap door to go to the cellar must have made rather close quarters for the sleeve bed and trundle bed and table and benches and blocks.{S7}. He married Nancy LEWIS [F455] about 1779. He was engaged in boating on the Mohawk River quite early. The Faville family settled there on Ransom Creek, Montgomery County, New York; and built a grist mill prior to 1800. John Faville died on 14 JUN 1817, in Manheim Township, Montgomery County, New York. - F12. Asa D. FAVILLE. Born in 1802 in Manheim Township, Montgomery County, New York. He was baptized into the Methodist church in 1819. He married (1) Nancy Jane SMITH about 1828. She was of Oswego County, New York. They had three children, one was named Eliza Faville, and she married (1) Sumner FRENCH [or she married a T.C. French according to marriage records, and that they had a son named Sumner French born about 1854, who was living as late as 1870 Census. (S9).] and (2) Henry DREW, with whom she had several children. The second daughter of Asa and Nancy was named Tamazon (1831-1905), who married Henry C. DRAKE 11 OCT 1854. The third was named Merriam, who died 16 SEP 1843 at age 4 years, 8 months. His wife (Jane) died in 1849. Asa married (2) Helen SMITH in 1862. She was of Milford, Wisconsin. They had a daughter Genevieve, who married Henry TOPPING. The moved in (1843-obituary of Tamazon)(1845-obituary of Asa) to Wisconsin and settled first in Waterloo, Wisconsin. Two years later they moved to an area they called Faville Grove at Milford, Wisconsin. [The obituary of Asa says the opposite order, but this is obviously correct.] Asa Faville died on 3 DEC 1889 in Milford, Jefferson County, Wisconsin; and was buried in the Rock Lake Cemetery in Lake Mills, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. Records for Asa also appear in the Faville Peck, or Sherwood, Cemetery in Manhiem, Herkimer County, New York. REV. JOHN FAVILLE, who, as pastor of the Congregational Church at Appleton, Wisconsin, became widely known through this city both for his spiritual helpfulness as well as for the executive ability that brought about, within two years, the replacing of the small structure of the congregation by an edifice that ranks with the leading ones of the place. In a wider field Mr. Faville is equally well known. He was the originator, with his brother, Rev. Henry Faville of the Young Men's Sunday Evening Club, an organization which claims membership in every State in the Union. So important and far reaching had become the work of this organization as far back as the World's FairCongress, that Mr. Faville was requested to address this great body on this subject.
John Faville was born in Jefferson County, Wisconsin, July 7, 1847, a son of Elijah and Eliza (Ostrom) Faville, the former of whom was a native of Herkimer county, New York, and the latter of Wayne county. They were parents of three sons: John and Henry, twins, and Rush E. The older sons both entered the ministry but the youngest adopted agriculture as his business. John Faville attended school at Milford, Jefferson county, later was a student at Lake Mills and subsequently at Lawrence University, where he was graduated in 1871. On leaving his alma mater he became principal of the Milford schools, and one year later accepted the same position at Two Rivers. In 1873 he entered the Theological department of the Boston University, where he was graduated in 1876, and his first charge was the Cotton Street M. E. Church at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In the following year he was assigned to the M. E. Church at Fox Lake, where he officiated also as supply pastor for the Congregational body. Later he was transferred to Waupun and from there returned to Fond du Lac, Division Street Methodist Episcopal Church, and three years later accepted the urgent invitation of the Congregational Church at Appleton, with the result above noted. After a pastorate of thirteen years at Appleton, he accepted a call to the First Congregational Church of Peoria, Illinois. After a pastorate of nine years at Peoria he was recalled by the church at Appleton, Wisconsin, where he is now in his fourth year of service.
Some of Mr. Faville's public service aside from the ministry has been as a trustee of Lawrence University, of Milwaukee Downer and Northland Colleges, as president of the Anti-Saloon League of Wisconsin and director in the League in Illinois; as contributing editor of "Unity" and director in the Congress of Religions; and as moderator of both the Wisconsin and Illinois Congregational Associations.
He has been also a temperance and general lecturer and so great a factor has he been in the ranks of the Prohibition party that in the fall of 1894 he was chosen as that party's candidate for Congress.
For years he has written for the press and in every direction his influence has been beneficial and uplifting.
Rev. John Faville was married October 26, 1876, to Miss Louise G. Thayer, a daughter of Henry and Mary A. (Kelly) Thayer, of Massachusetts ancestry. Mr. and Mrs. Faville have two sons and one daughter: Henry T. (deceased); Mildred and John, Jr.
