Maurice BERKELEY

HUSBAND:
Maurice BERKELEY.
Born (in 1293-S15)(about 1298) at Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England; son of Maurice de BERKELEY and Eva le ZOUCHE.

He was of Stoke.

Maurice and his brother Thomas de Berkeley had shared with their father in the rebellion against the Despensers, and when the father was captured and committed to Wallingford Castle, the sons revenged themselves by laying waste the manors of the favourites in Oxon and Berkshire. Thomas was however taken prisoner and committed to the Tower, but made his escape.

He married Margaret BERKELEY (in 1330-S15)(about 1331) at London, Middlesex County, England.

He was at the Battle of Cressy in 1346, with his brother Lord Thomas Berkeley, and Thomas' son, Maurice, who was in attendance on the Prince of Wales.

He died 12 Feb (1345-S12)(1346-S13) at the siege of Calais at Calais, Pas-De-Calais, France.
