James BENNETT
HUSBAND:
[F8042]. James BENNETT.
Born 1616 in England. He was made a freeman at Concord, Massachusetts in 1639 and during that same year married Hannah WHEELER [8043]. In SEP 1644 he went to Fairfield, Connecticut with a party led by Rev. John Jones, which included his father-in-law, Thomas WHEELER [16086]. He died by Aug 1659 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, when his inventory was taken there.
WIFE:
[F8043]. Hannah (Anna) WHEELER.
Born about 1617; daughter of Thomas WHEELER [16086] and Ann HALSEY [16087].
She was baptized 20 FEB 1617 at Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England. She married (1) in 1639 James BENNETT [8042]. She married (2) Joseph MIDDLEBROOK. The Bennett children gave receipts for their portions of their father, James BENNETT's estate to Joseph Middlebrook when they came of age.
CHILDREN of James BENNETT [F8042] and Hannah WHEELER [F8043]:
- Hannah BENNETT. Born 1 JUN 1640 at Concord, Massachusetts. She died 29 OCT 1650.
- Thomas BENNETT. Born 16 OCT 1642 at Concord, Massachusetts. He married Elizabeth THOMPSON. He died in 1704.
- James BENNETT. Born about 1645 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He married (1) about 1667 to the dau. of Walter JOY. This is proved by the will of her brother, Joseph JOY, which named his cousin (nephew) Joseph BENNETT; and her daughter Abigail (Bennett) Bishop, named a son Joy Bishop. He married (2) about 1683 to Mary OSBORN , dau. of Jeremiah OSBORN and widow of Ephraim BOOTH. He served as Deputy for Fairfield to the Connecticut General Court in 1689, 1695, 1697, 1699, 1701, 1702, 1706, 1708, 1709, and 1710. He was appointed Lieutenant for the Albany Expedition in FEB 1692-3, and Lieutenant of the Stratford Trainband in MAY 1704. He married (3) Rebecca. He died in 2-6 OCT 1736 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. His will was dated 2 OCT 1736 and proved 6 OCT 1636.
- John BENNETT. Born about 1648 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He married Mary THOMPSON.
- Mary BENNETT. Born 20 JAN 1651-2 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. She died between 1654 and 1659.
- F4021]. Sarah BENNETT.
- Hannah BENNETT. Born about 1656 at Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. She probably married Lieutenant Nathaniel SEELEY.
