Henry ADAMS and Rose

HUSBAND:
[F18272]. Henry ADAMS. [PC M4-23].
Born about 1531 in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England; son of John ADAMS [F36544] and Alys [F36545].

When he was 8 years old he may have witnessed the brutal public hanging, beheading, and quartering of Richard Whiting, the last of Glastonbury's Abbots in 1539. {S9}.

He married possibly Rose [F18273] (in 1552-S4)(about 1554-S5)(in 1554-S4,S6,S7) in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England.

He lived all his life in Barton St. David. He was also a yeoman husbandman and became a bondsman. He served as a court witness on several legal matters. {S9}.

In a Deposition Book in the Diocesan Registry, under 25 May 1586, we find a deposition made by “Henricus Addams paroch. De Barton Davie”. Here the final e is so like a d, that the word has been misread as “David”, but a close examination of the handwriting leaves no room for doubt, and indeed the place is called Barton Davy shortly before in the same document. {S11}.

He died (about 1571)(after 1595-1596-S3)(about 1596-S5)(on 12 August 1596-S4)(on 23 August 1596-S6) at Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England. He was buried on 12 August 1596 in Barton St. David {S7}.

WIFE:
[F18273]. (Rose?). [PC M4-23].
Born (about 1535-S3)(in 1536-S2,S4) in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England. {S2}.

She married Henry ADAMS [F18272] about 1554.

She died on 20 SEP 1598 in Somerset, England. {S3}.
She was buried 20 SEP 1598 at Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England. {S2}

  2. [F9136]. John ADAMS. [PC M4-23]. Born on 1 January 1555 in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England. He married Agnes, (possibly STONE-S1)(STONE-S2,S3) [F9137] (on 1 FEB 1575-S?)(in 1578-S2) in England. He married Margaret ARMAGER {S2}. On 27 May 1597 he became a bonman for Agnes, widow of John Stone (his mother-in-law?) of Barton St. David, and executrix of the will of her late husband {S2}. He died about MAR 1604 in Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England; as his will was proved 19 MAR 1604. He was buried on 22 March 1604 in Barton St. David {S2}. Agnes was buried on 15 January 1616 in the Barton St. David churchyard {S2}.
    [NOTE: Different sources confuse brothers Richard and John, and abscribe to them the same dates and marriages. Were they one and the same person? More careful research needs to be done to determine what is correct. RAM]
